Seating at the Wedding ...

Seating your guests at the ceremony should be trouble-free, if you plan with your ushers in advance.
Traditionally, the ushers ask guest what "side" they are from, the bride's or the groom's and the guests are seated accordingly. But it is not necessary to do this especially if the sides will be uneven.

If you decide to have sides, in a Christian ceremony, the bride's family and friends sit on the left of the church if you are in the back of the church looking forward. And the groom's side is on the right side. In a Jewish ceremony, the seating arrangement is opposite with the bride's side on the right.

The ushers should be instructed to seat elderly guests near the front and guests in wheelchairs or with crutches on the end of a pew.

The immediate family sits in the front rows with the parents on the first row. In case of divorced parents, the parent who primarily raised the bride or groom should be seated on the first row. The other parent should be seated on the third row. If the divorced parents are amicable then they should both sit on the front row. Discuss the seating arrangement beforehand to avoid misunderstandings or hurt feelings.

Also, direct your ushers to bring in the groom's mother second to last, followed by the bride's mother. Their seating should indicate the beginning of the ceremony.
